The bright patterns on these elastic scrunchies are inspired by traditional Hmong skirts. Known for complex patterns on eye-catching textiles, the Hmong are an indigenous tribe who live in Southeast Asia. Here, Thai artisan Thikaporn reproduces their traditional skirt pattern, crafting the set from a poly-cotton blend. Accented by cotton pompoms, raintree wood beads, and aluminum bells, these scrunchies are a fun way to keep your hair neat and tidy.
You can find our cotton-blend hair scrunchies 'Hmong Spirit in Red-Orange' (pair) by Thikaporn in accessories categories such as Cotton Hair Accessories. Enjoy exploring these sections for other Novica treasures.
Preserving Traditions
"I am a member of the Akha hill tribe. My father crafted décor accents, and traveled to Bangkok to sell them. I began working with handwoven bulrush handbags, embellished with Northern Thai patterned fabrics and the creative embroidery unique to the Akha people, who are skillful at needlework. Akha people earned very little from their routine work because their education level is not high, and some have no education at all. I am very happy to show what my people can do."
