Hand Woven and Hand Painted Silk Scarf, "Bengali Blocks"

Woven by hand on a pit loom from Bishnupur double-ply silk, this scarf is at once both traditional and contemporary. On a Mondrian-like background of blocks in olive, sand and white, Indian artisans Somu and Soma hand-paint stylized tree motifs in brown, blue and salmon. Fine fringe adorns both ends. Due to the nature of the silk and the hand woven process, minor slubs may appear in the fabric; this should not be considered a defect.
