Handmade Rustic Ghanaian Sese Wood Mask Carved by Artisan, "Bird-Headed"

Dazed with a blank stare, this bird-headed mask calls on the descendants of dinosaurs to assemble and take to the skies. Working to advance Ghana's mask-making sector, artisan Philip Dankwa experiments with the uncanny, pushing the confines of the very definition of a mask. Specializing in woodworking since learning the craft at a young age, Dankwa carves this sese wood mask utilizing sculpting techniques inherited from master carvers in eastern Ghana.
