Artisans from the Angel Cerón Artisan Association create an original mask that blends elements of both Maya and Aztec art and culture. The face depicts the Sun Jaguar of the underworld seen in an incense burner from the Classic Maya site of Palenque. The mouth makes reference to Chac, the Maya rain god. Covered with skulls, the headdress is an interpretation of the Aztec tzompantli, a rack where the heads of sacrificial victims were displayed as an offering to the gods.

I absolutely love the pieces from this artisan group and this mask in particular is wonderfully detailed.

Life is fleeting so enjoy it while you can. What better reminder then this richly realized evocation of a past great civilization! A substantial art piece. Thank you, Novica!

Maya with Chu Vessel is a really nice ceramic sculpture. It is not, however, signed by the artist. Instead, it has a generic MEXICO sticker plastered on the back. Additionally, there was not a certified story card included. The lack of those items gives the appearance of a mass-produced piece.
