One side of the face has long feline fangs, while the human side shows a serpent emerging from the nose and the ears takes the shape of a deer. Among Peru's pre-Inca Cupisnique culture, identified by archeologist Rafael Larco Hoyle in the 1940s, the face of this jungle cat is frequently seen in their art. Walter Jose Acosta depicts the image in a huaco, or clay vessel. The original can be seen in the Museo Larco in Lima.
