Armando Ramirez masterfully transmits the printer's deep concentration as he transforms auto parts and scrap metal into an expressive sculpture. The man's body is a recycled spark plug, his limbs are shaped from thick wires and his head is made from a round point discarded from a die machine. Ramirez uses a bicycle chain, a bearing, thick wires, nails and other discarded pieces to sculpt the legendary printing machine.
Ramírez prefers not to give his sculptures a fine polished finish, therefore smudges and scratches may be present.

When I started working at the Veteran's Hospital, I taught printing and graphics as a part of Rehabilitation. One of the parts I liked best was letter-press printing, on our old Chandler & Price Press. It was cantankerous, but did great work for MANY years! It's a great reminder of the"Good Old Days".

This was a gift for my brother who retired from the printing trade after 50 years. It prompted a explanation of how the press worked. Armando did an excellent job of recreating it in such a fun way.
