Born on an island near Java, artisan Ma'ruf made the journey from orphaned buffalo shepherd to local artisan. Along with his brother and seven other craftsmen, Ma'ruf creates handcrafted pieces like these baskets, made from ate grass and bamboo stalks, which he says are popular with visitors to "paradise island". The conical baskets are made from hand-woven ate grass supported by bamboo stalks and are whitewashed for an antique finish.
You can find our ate grass baskets 'Sembalun' (pair) by Ma'ruf in decor accessories categories such as Natural Fiber Baskets. Enjoy exploring these sections for other Novica treasures.
