Signed Naif Painting of a Dance Scene from Brazil, "Sussa Dance...Village Kalunga"

The Kalunga people are a culturally rich group in Brazil who trace their roots back to escaped slaves, settling in characteristic quilombola, or villages. Telma Morais paints this vibrant scene, depicting the Sussa dance of the Kalunga people, where men and women join together to show off their skills. One of the women can be seen with a bottle atop her head, a typical sight during such gatherings.
