Details

Suggesting ritual scarification, richly textured repoussé adorns the features of an African mask. The design arises from the artisan's own imagination, as Theophilus Sackey depicts an adinkra symbol on the forehead. "Nyame biri wo soro is a symbol of hope," he explains. "It is a reminder that God's dwelling place is in the heaven, where he can listen to all prayers."
