The image is sculpted and hand painted with exquisite details, including the ornate costume and headdresses of the king and queen. The artisan carries on the extraordinary art work of her late father, Nyoman Subrata.

The Janger is performed by twelve young girls and twelve young boys who sit in opposing rows, taking turns in singing a local melody. The girls sing a soft harmonious piece swaying gently, contrasting with the sharp yells and angular motions of the boys. The beautiful dancer in this piece conveys a state of spiritual bliss as she curves her waist to the music. Carved from local suar wood, the dancer's exotic costume is crowned by an elaborate dazzling headdress. In one hand she daintily holds an open fan.

According to custom, when people finish building a house they include a spirit house to protect the family from evil spirits. Gitikoon carves this house by hand from quality teak wood. The gables feature eight heads shaped like Naga, the protective dragon. The bargeboards replicate Naga's scales, as well as swan tails. The swan is a mystical being from the Himaphan forest. A small pagoda adorns the rooftop; it is crowned with a lotus blossom.

Nyoman Indrawati Subrata of the Subrata Family delicately carves the heroic royal couple of the Hindu epic, the Ramayana. The epic poem tells the story of Rama, the seventh incarnation of the god Vishnu, who eventually wins Sita in marriage. Displaced as rightful heir to his father's throne, Rama goes into exile with Sita and his brother Lakshmana. Sita is later abducted by the demon-king Ravana. Rama, with the aid of the monkey general Hanoman, searches for Sita and slays Rawana, rescuing her. Rama then regains his throne. Rumors and gossip accuse Sita of adultery during her captivity. Although innocent, she bears Rama's twin sons in exile, sheltered by the hermit Valmiki, the author of the poem. Many years pass, but eventually, Rama and Sita reunite in love. This elegant sculpture by Nyoman Indrawati Subrata of the Subrata Family was created in suar wood which is responsible for the richness of color that can be seen in this masterpiece.

The artisan's skill can be seen in details such as the Buddha's headdress, the drape of his robe and his slender fingers. When designing a new piece, master carver Wayan Rendah enjoys letting the wood's characteristics inspire him. In this case he works with hibiscus wood and finishes the statuette in the variegated brown shades typical of this wood.

Spark plugs, a pulley from a toy train engine, and the chain and wheel of a motorcycle begin to shape the projector. Several auto parts complete it, such as the ignition wheel of a car, the foot and diaphragm of the clutch pedal, and a bearing from the electrical system.

Please note it is the artist's intention not to give his sculptures a fine polished finish, therefore smudges and scratches may be present.

Ramírez does not give his sculptures a fine polished finish, therefore smudges and scratches may be present.

I have been collecting Jon Anderson?s work for several years. They are intricately put together with wonderful colors and are very realistic representations of the animals. I have a cat, bison, elk, polar bear and penguin. Love them all!

I have been collecting Jon Anderson pieces for three years now and when I saw this penguin - had to get it. The colors are great and the baby penguin adds to the smile I get when I look at it. I love his pieces because they depict animals I have seen on my travels and they are so unique with color.
