The jewelry box features intricate decoration on the exterior made of cedar wood and tooled leather. A pair of birds keeps watch in a garden of ornate flowers and leaves on the domed lid and variations of that motif are carried through to the sides and front. The jewelry box has three drawers and one top compartment, all lined in a velvety-soft red fabric.

A rectangular mirror is attached to the interior side of the lid, which can remain open with the help of a leather strap hinge.

This decorative box features beautiful reverse-painted glass with a map of the world on its lid in a golden brown palette to give it an antiqued look. Peruvian artisan Asunta Pelaez handcrafts the box from wood and paints by hand the world map scene on the reverse side of a pane of glass that is then secured to the box surface. The four sides of the box also have reverse-painted glass in blocks of color in the same brown, orange, and gold tones as the map. The lid can be removed to reveal a single compartment, painted black.
