Catrina is the original creation of José Guadalupe Posadas, renowned author, journalist and political cartoonist (1852-1913). He is credited for popularizing the Day of the Dead celebrations, especially through the creation of skeletal cartoons that capture the Mexican attitude towards death. The most renowned of these is the Catrina, (meaning "dapper"), and she is always elegantly dressed featuring a wide brimmed hat with colorful flowers.

The catrina has since become an emblem of Mexico's Day of the Dead celebration and a popular folk art subject.

Beautiful and detailed

I had a major birthday during a pandemic so I decided to celebrate with a tattoo done by my nephew. It is a hummingbird and these lovely earrings make a perfect companion to it. I love those birds and I especially love this version of them done by a talented artist. They are larger than I expected and appear to be kissing my cheeks when I wear them!
