Depicted with a blue face and a majestic, colorful headdress, the face of the Mayan god of death, Ah Puch is depicted in this archaeologically-inspired mask from Mexico. The Angel Ceron Artisan Association presents this mask, which is handcrafted from ceramic by local artisans.

Hieroglyphs color the blackened visage of a sleeping man, suggesting midnight's darkness. Oscar Rodolfo Mendoza works in ceramic to create a replica of the funeral masks used by the ancient Maya. Modern artisans utilize the same materials and techniques as in pre-Hispanic times to create this poignant portrait.

A mask built of layers seem to break open, revealing a living youth within. The wrinkled visage of an aged man frames him, and the outermost mask represent the dead. Working in ceramic, artisans from the Angel Cerón Artisan Association create an enigmatic replica. The original piece is thought to belong to the Teotihuacan culture and is displayed in the Museum of San Ildefonso in Mexico City.

Robert Nortey is inspired by the traditional masks of the Ga people for the original design of this piece. Shaped like a fish, the mask is hand carved of sese wood featuring two faces of different sizes.

A single person gazes in three directions at once – to both sides and straight ahead. "This represents a different kind of thinking that people sometimes have. It is based on my daily experience of meeting a lot of people. Those interactions enrich my experience," Eka says as she presents this intriguing mask. Hibiscus wood varies widely in its tones and patterns, thus each mask is an absolutely unique work of art.

The smooth grain of hibiscus wood highlights even contours in a harmonious mask by Made Tresna. Forming a circle, a couple signifies love that has no end. Their blissful features suggest a dream shared.
