The beautiful Buddhist goddess Kwan Im folds her arms and closes her eyes in prayer. By Wayan Rendah, this exquisite portrait is carved by hand from crocodile wood. The reverent image seems to radiate sensations of peace.

Wayan Rendah portrays Rama and Sita in crocodile wood, the Ramayana protagonists sculpted with beautiful realism. As the first son of the royal family, Rama was heir to the kingdom of Ayodya. But the king's second wife tricked him into crowning her own son as king and sending Rama and his wife Sita into exile. The beautiful woman was kidnapped by the ogre-king, but Rama sent Hanoman, the white monkey god, to her rescue.

The OM symbol, representing all sounds and symbolizing the essence of the universe, is nestled among frangipani blossoms in this magnificent hand carved suar wood wall relief panel by Balinese artisan Seji Taram.

Known as om or aum, omkara is the root of all sounds, emitted as a mantra during meditation. It is believed all desires will vanish, thus attaining self-realization and the highest of knowledge. This one letter symbolizes the most high in the Hindu pantheon, representing every kind of trinity such as Brahma-Vishnu-Shiva, past-present-future, birth-life-death; creation-preservation-destruction, and waking-dreaming-deep sleep.

In something so simple as a coconut shell, it is possible to create an intricate carving of an Anantaboga dragon encircling an image of the Hindu deity Ganesha. By Eka, this beautiful open-work sculpture is carved by hand to display on a base of albesia wood.

The supreme protector of the universe and creator of all things that breathe life, Vishnu, extends his genius to this sculpture by Bali's Komang Sulaksana. Inspired by the precepts of the Vaishnavism tradition, the artisan works in albesia wood to create this piece in honor of Vishnu.

The sculpture rests on a display stand included with the set.

Indonesia's Made Mulyani hand carves this mask figurine from native crocodile wood in the image of Ganesha--the elephant-headed Hindu god of new beginnings. The sharp detail of the mask is tempered by the smooth polish of the wood, and the small size makes it easy to display on any wall.

Nyoman Indrawati Subrata of the Subrata Family delicately carves the heroic royal couple of the Hindu epic, the Ramayana. The epic poem tells the story of Rama, the seventh incarnation of the god Vishnu, who eventually wins Sita in marriage. Displaced as rightful heir to his father's throne, Rama goes into exile with Sita and his brother Lakshmana. Sita is later abducted by the demon-king Ravana. Rama, with the aid of the monkey general Hanoman, searches for Sita and slays Rawana, rescuing her. Rama then regains his throne. Rumors and gossip accuse Sita of adultery during her captivity. Although innocent, she bears Rama's twin sons in exile, sheltered by the hermit Valmiki, the author of the poem. Many years pass, but eventually, Rama and Sita reunite in love. This elegant sculpture by Nyoman Indrawati Subrata of the Subrata Family was created in suar wood which is responsible for the richness of color that can be seen in this masterpiece.

Eka brings Rama and Sita to life in an exquisite relief panel, carved by hand from Balinese suar wood. Surrounded by flowers and leaves, the royal couple is the model of a loving husband and wife. The story comes from the Sanskrit Ramayana, or "Romance of Rama," the shorter of the Hindu tradition's two most famous epic poems.
