Roy Nilson finds inspiration in the vintage jewelry from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. The style is still popular among Mexico's Mazahua women, who live in the states of Mexico, Michoacan and Queretaro. And their handcrafted jewelry reflects the region's customs with traditional motifs like birds, flowers and leaves. Peruvian artisan Paola Siza puts her experience and creativity into practice to create this enchanting bracelet, part of NOVICA's World Peace Project Collection. "When designing this bracelet, I was inspired by the story of a dove's flight, sent by superior beings to spread calm throughout the world to all sentient beings. Thus, there begins to be compassion for each other and coexistence in peace," explains the artisan.

Working in the style of imperial handicrafts, Peruvian designer Sonia Cachi creates this pair of button earrings from Peru. Two lovely doves are crafted from silver. A combination between high-polish and oxidized finishes highlights the detail on their little wings.

I hope that all countries respect each other and maintain world peace. Global problems can be solved through dialogue and respect for applicable international law, without war.

"To attain peace, humanity needs to show its heart," says the artisan, who crafts this sterling silver pendant necklace in Denpasar, incorporating traditional Balinese motifs throughout the design, with a Celtic pattern on the Borobudur chain that symbolizes the close human bond, and a heart-shaped pendant with a hammered finish, that on the reverse side incorporates the symbology of diverse religions, all beating together in this heart, living in harmony side-by-side-among -- symbols of Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Taoism, Islam, Christianity, Shinto, and Sikhism, which spread in the world but here live together in peace.

The Karen hill tribe artisans from Thailand are known for making jewelry unique to their corner of the world. Artisan Napapat comments that their works are "...very creative and beautiful, but also distinctly Thai: their methods unchanged from mother to daughter." Here she presents a hand braided ebony colored cord bracelet with a barrel-shaped silver tube flanked on each side by two beads; the detailing of the tube's filigree motif and the bead's decorations is further enhanced by the combination finish of the metal.
