Handwoven from nylon by Maya Artists of the Yucatan, this single rope hammock from Mexico is breezy and decadent. With a solid color in ecru and stretchers made of pinewood, the hammock features delicate fringe that hangs off the sides.

Soft threads the color of bronze are patiently hand-woven into a spacious hammock. Utilizing ancestral techniques, skilled artisans create this beautiful work and adorn its edges with long fringe, crocheted and knotted by hand. From Maya Artists of the Yucatan, its twin stretchers are carved from pinewood.

Long before the Spanish arrived upon the coasts of the Yucatan Peninsula, the Maya preferred to sleep and rest in hammocks. They considered the hammock to be like the loving embrace of a mother, due to the comfortable manner in which the body is held and swung within its cradle. Maya Artists of the Yucatan seek to preserve time-honored customs while also offering stylized versions of the original Maya hammock. For them, the hammock is a work of art.
