The community raises and cares for its own alpacas. The fleece is washed, carded and spun by hand using a pushka, or drop spindle. The dyes come from plants, nuts and tree bark. This determines the size of the textile, the color combinations, and the patterns that will be woven.

The intensity of color can vary depending on the hardness of the water, the altitude and the local dye sources, making each textile a unique piece of handcrafted art.

Like a functional blanket

I am 5 feet tall, so this is certainly very long on me. I have had it for about four months now. It’s easy to put on, and pretty much fuss free. Good overlap in the front if I want that, and I love the coverage when I’m seated, especially on cool evenings when I appreciate coverage down to my knees! The colors of red through wine are so rich! The fabric is soft and drapes nicely. I’m back to see if there is something similar in another color.

Beautiful warm stylish button-up ruana cloak

Gorgeous striking color with striking pattern. Just received today - can't wait for winter. It is medium weight, as another reviewer pointed out, but it will be very warm. (This is not my first alpaca blend poncho/ruana from Alfredo Falcon.)
