Artisan Alvaro Ratzan learned from his parents to create beautiful designs using simple materials, enabling him and his siblings to earn a living and better the lives of those in their community. The Ratzan family pioneered the glass beaded handicraft trade in the area surrounding Lake Atitlan in the Guatemalan highlands. Here, Alvaro creates a colorful hummingbird in honor of the diverse fauna that thrives in the Guatemalan wilderness, arranging glass beads in a waterfall of luminescence.
